ARLINGTON, Texas -- Kole Calhoun got the Los Angeles Angels off to a fast start with a leadoff triple, and he trotted home after an errant relay throw bounced into the seats. All-Star centre fielder Mike Trout and the rest of the Angels quickly followed his lead, and Los Angeles went on to a 15-6 rout over the freefalling Texas Rangers on Thursday night. "Oh yeah we were having fun," said Trout, the No. 2 hitter behind Calhoun who had a three-run homer among his four hits. "We always have fun, we know what this offence is capable of doing." The first four Angels batters in the game had hits and scored. They added six more runs in the second and were already up 13-2 against Colby Lewis (6-6) when Trout hit his 21st homer with one out in the third. "Those are the days you play for in organized sports, especially in baseball, when everybodys contributing, everybodys having fun, everybodys getting hits," said Josh Hamilton, the 2010 AL MVP with Texas who had RBI doubles in each of the first two innings. "Its a fun thing to be a part of." While the Angels won for the seventh time in eight games, Texas has lost five straight and 19 of 22. The Rangers (38-54) have the worst winning percentage in the majors at .413. The Rangers clubhouse remained closed for about 30 minutes after the game. Manager Ron Washington refused to reveal what he said to his team, but gave some insight into what he expects from his players. "That you dont stop fighting. You dont give into adversity. The game of baseball is full of it. You dont give in to it," he said. "The only people that can make a change and make a difference is my guys. " Hector Santiago (1-7) struck out eight in six innings. The left-hander allowed four runs and five hits. Lewis allowed a club-record 13 runs in only 2 1-3 innings. He also gave up a career-worst 13 hits in his 130th major league start, while his ERA increased by more than a full run -- from 5.51 to 6.54 -- after 11 earned runs were changed against him. Calhoun, who had four hits and scored four times, was only a homer shy of a cycle after hits in each of the first three innings. He admittedly "100 per cent" was trying to go deep his last two at-bats in a lopsided game, but grounded out and had another single. "I was definitely pulling for it," Trout said. "It was fun to watch." Calhoun pulled another ball down the right-field line for an RBI double in the second. Trout then drove in a run on a chopper for an infield hit before Albert Pujols had a sacrifice fly -- though he reached base when right fielder Alex Rios dropped the ball on the warning track for an error. Hamilton then had the second of his three doubles in the game. Erick Aybar, added to the AL All-Star team Thursday, also had RBIs in each of the first two innings. He drove in a run with a groundout in the first and had an RBI single in the second. Rangers rookie outfielder Jake Smolinski, who made his major league debut as a pinch-hitter Monday, had three hits, drove in three runs and scored twice. He has hits in all three of his starts and is the first Rangers player ever with eight hits in his first four games. NOTES: The Angels had lost eight consecutive games at Texas. ... RHP Matt West became the third player to make his major league debut this week for the Rangers. He had two scoreless innings in relief and was the 28th pitcher used this season by Texas, breaking a tie with the Angels for the most in the majors. C Chris Gimenez made it 29 when he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. ... Rangers All-Star 3B Adrian Beltre had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 14 games, the longest active in the AL. He is hitting .500 (42 of 84) his last 22 home games. ... Angels RHP Garrett Richards (10-2, 2.71), who finished second in the final five voting for the last spot on the AL All-Star team, starts Friday night against righty Nick Tepesch (3-4, 4.29). The England international raised his middle finger toward Manchester City supporters during Saturdays game at Etihad Stadium, which Arsenal lost 6-3. The incident was not seen by match officials at the time but the FA charged Wilshere retrospectively after a study of video footage. Reshad Jones Jersey . The move - the latest twist in Greeces nearly three-year financial freefall -- is the first such action by any of the countrys major sports bodies. Mark Clayton Jersey . - Jesse Shynkaruk scored a hat trick as the Moose Jaw Warriors snapped a seven-game losing streak with an 8-2 win over the Prince Albert Raiders in Western Hockey League action on Saturday.DALLAS - If the Dallas Mavericks ever figure out the third quarter, they might be on to something in their quest to rejoin the elite in the Western Conference.Until then, theyll be dealing with some frayed nerves.Chandler Parsons scored 29 points, including a key 3-pointer to help Dallas hang on after going up by 30 before halftime for the second time in two home games, and the Mavericks beat the Boston Celtics 118-113 Monday night. Its concerning, said Parsons, who also won a key jumpball with Boston within three in the final minute after trailing by 31 in the second quarter. I love how we never give up after we give up the lead. But we cant allow these teams to keep coming back in and cutting the lead.Jeff Green led the Celtics with 35, and Avery Bradley had a career-high 32 but missed one of three free throws with a chance to tie with 39 seconds left after getting fouled on a 3-pointer by Monta Ellis. We shot ourselves in the foot in the first half the last two games, said Green, whose team trailed Houston by 19 at halftime in a loss Saturday. By the end we were out of gas. We cant allow teams to be the aggressor the first 12 minutes. Thats what happens.Dirk Nowitzki scored 27 for the Mavericks, who shot 73 per cent in the first quarter and had at least 66 points at halftime for the third straight game, all wins since a season-opening loss at San Antonio. But Dallas cooled off and couldnt shake Boston the way it did Utah after going up by 30 before halftime and losing more than half the lead in an 18-point win in the home opener. The Mavericks have been outscored in the third quarter of all four games, three times by double digits. New Orleans scored 37 while wiping out most of a 17-point deficit on Saturday. The Celtics hit eight of their first nine shots in a 38-point third quarter. To continue getting the leads, that would be great, Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. If we can keep doing that, we will deal with the other stuff. We will get it solved.Parsonns had a 3-pointer and an easy layup after a turnover to push Dallas lead to 114-104 before the Celtics scored seven quick points to get close again in the final minute.ddddddddddddAfter Bradley missed the second of three free throws with a chance to tie, Ellis put Dallas back up by three at 116-113 with a driving layup. The Celtics had another chance to get even when Green missed a 3 with 20 seconds left, and Parsons won the tip with Jared Sullinger after they ended up in a jump ball following a mad scramble on the floor.SMARTS HOMECOMINGThe first time Boston cut its 31-point deficit to 3 in the fourth quarter, it came on a 3-pointer by rookie first-round pick Marcus Smart, who played at a Dallas-area high school and had quite a cheering section for his first pro game close to home. Several dozen students from Marcus High School in nearby Flower Mound wore T-shirts that read, We Are 4 Marcus, with his No. 36 inside a shamrock. Some of the guys played on the JV team when I was on the varsity. It makes me feel old, said the 20-year-old Smart, who got a loud ovation when he came into the game and finished with seven points, six rebounds and three assists.TIP-INSCeltics: Boston was 11 of 31 from 3-point range after making just 1 of 25 from beyond the arc in Houston. Bradley scored 14 points in the fourth quarter.Mavericks: Tyson Chandler had his first double-double since returning to Dallas with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. ... Parsons and Nowitzki combined to go 8 of 9 on 3-pointers. ... Forward Al-Farouq Aminu left the game in the second quarter with a left knee injury. Carlisle said he didnt think the injury was serious.UP NEXTCeltics: Return home to face Toronto on Wednesday after a two-game Texas swing opened the road schedule.Mavericks: Get two days off before their first back-to-back on the road at Portland and Utah.
